FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Are your livestock 100% grassfed?
We have two separate beef herds-- one is our Hereford cattle, and they are 100% grass fed from start to finish. The other is a herd of bottle fed dairy calves, and they receive an organic grain mix when they're weaned.
Our pigs and chickens receive grain, predominantly grown on our farm. What we don't grow, we source organically. We grind all the feed into custom mixes on our farm. Pigs and chickens are monogastric animals, meaning they cannot grow and thrive on pasture alone.
Do sell your meat year round?
Yes! We raise pigs/cattle year round and freeze chickens for winter sales.
Is all your meat frozen?
Generally all our meat is frozen shortly after it is packaged at our butcher. This ensures we are getting customers the freshest pastured meat available. Unfrozen does not equate to better quality-- often the opposite is true.
Where can I get your beef?
Our beef is available periodically at the Media farmers market we attend, as well as in our meat share. We will soon be at a place where we can also offer it directly from our farm.
Do your animals receive pharmaceuticals such as antibiotics and hormones?
They never receive hormones. It is very rare that we administer antibiotics, and only when absolutely necessary for the animal's survival. We never use them prophylactically.
Can I visit your farm?
We do accept visitors, but arrangements must be made before you visit! We cannot accommodate drop-ins.
Do you take volunteers?
No, but we do pay well for skilled farm labor when needed.
We have found that volunteering tends to de-professionalize farming and that we don't have the time or resources to train someone to help out for just a short time.
